A valuable book, especially for those adults old enough to remember that time.  It fills in the story from inside the USSR.  Also allows you to gain insight as to why Putin does not honor Gorbachev and considers him a failure.  Other words that fit may not be accurate for what Putin thinks of him, such as traitor, black mark, and weak.  I think this was the book that gave credit to Chernobyl for speeding up the economic fall of the USSR.
